Solar repair for any system, any installer
Plenty of companies sold solar in Southwest Florida over the past decade. A lot of them are no longer in business, which leaves homeowners with a system that isn’t working and a warranty nobody will honor.
We service those systems. Stilwell has repaired thousands of solar installations over four decades, and we work on all brands regardless of who put them in.
Our crews run from well-stocked trucks carrying solar-specific components, so most repairs get handled on the first visit rather than scheduled for a return trip.

Solar electric system repair
Solar PV systems are reliable, but they aren’t maintenance-free. Inverters are usually the first thing to fail — most are warranted around ten to twelve years, and plenty of systems installed during the boom are reaching that point now.
What we repair:
- Inverter failure and replacement — the most common service call we get
- Production drops — a system generating less than it should, often without any visible sign
- Monitoring and communication faults — when the app stops reporting
- Wiring, conduit and connector damage — heat, UV and wildlife all take a toll down here
- Rapid shutdown and optimizer issues
- Panel damage from storms, debris or impact
- Roof penetration leaks at mounting points
- Grounding and electrical corrections
If your production is down and you don’t know why, that’s worth a service call. A single failed optimizer or a bad string can cut output substantially without anything looking wrong from the ground.

Solar pool heater repair
A solar pool heater runs 15 years or more, but it’s plumbing on a roof in a harsh climate. Components wear.
What we service:
- Leak detection and repair — the most common pool heating issue
- Roof penetration maintenance at mounting and plumbing points
- Collector panel repair and replacement
- Valve and actuator replacement — a stuck diverter valve is a frequent cause of “my heater stopped working”
- Controller programming and sensor faults — often the problem when the system runs at the wrong times
- Plumbing, header and fitting repairs
- Full system evaluation and replacement
If your pool isn’t heating the way it used to, the cause is usually a failed sensor, a stuck valve, or a leak you can’t see from the deck. All three are straightforward fixes when diagnosed correctly.
Repair or replace?
Sometimes a repair is throwing money at a system that’s near the end of its life. We’ll tell you which situation you’re in.
Repair usually makes sense when the system is under fifteen years old, the panels are producing well, and the failure is a single component like an inverter, valve or sensor.
Replacement by installing a new solar electric system is usually the better call when the system is approaching or past its service life, multiple components are failing, panels have degraded significantly, or the technology is old enough that parts are hard to source.
Either way you’ll get a straight answer rather than an automatic upsell.
Solar system inspection
An inspection makes sense at three points: buying or selling a home with solar, planning a roof replacement, or deciding whether an aging system is worth repairing.
We evaluate solar electric and pool heating systems and give you a clear picture of condition, age, remaining service life and what it would cost to bring up to standard. Then we tell you honestly whether to repair it or replace it.
For a home purchase, that’s information worth having before closing rather than after. A system that looks fine from the driveway can have a failed inverter, water intrusion at the penetrations, or panels well past their productive life.
We inspect across all of Southwest Florida, from Marco Island to Deep Creek.
Replacing your roof? Don’t let the roofers move your solar
This is the single most common way systems get damaged in Southwest Florida.
Roofing crews aren’t solar contractors. Panels get set aside improperly, mounting hardware gets reused when it shouldn’t be, flashing gets installed wrong, and the problems show up as leaks or production loss months later — by which point nobody’s taking responsibility.
We remove and reinstall solar systems for roof replacement. Components are carefully handled and reused where they’re still good, which saves you money, and reinstallation uses proper solar attachment and flashing methods for your roof type.
Coordinate it with us before the roofing job starts, not after.
Don’t let the roofing crews do it – solar is our specialty. Protect your investment and let Stilwell Solar professionals handle your solar electric and pool heating systems when replacing your roof. Our skilled team will carefully remove and maintain all components in good condition for reuse to save you money, and adhere to proper solar attachment methods during the reinstallation process.
We work from well-stocked trucks containing high-quality components used exclusively in the solar industry, offering every client top-quality construction, the highest level of professionalism, consistent craftsmanship, and a reliable final product.
Why choose Stilwell for solar service and repair?
Since 1981. We’re still servicing systems we installed decades ago — and systems installed by companies that no longer exist.
All brands, all installers. We didn’t have to install it to repair it.
Licensed electrical and solar contractor. Solar repair involves live electrical work, and much of it is on a roof. License numbers are in our footer.
Well-stocked trucks. Our vehicles carry solar-specific components, so most repairs get done on the first visit.
Local scheduling. Our office staff is here in Estero, not a call center.
Solar Repair FAQ
Do you repair systems you didn’t install?
Yes. Most of our service work is on systems installed by other companies, including many that are no longer in business.
My solar company went out of business. Can you help?
Yes, and it’s common. We service all brands regardless of who installed them. We can’t honor another company’s warranty, but we can diagnose and repair the system.
How much does solar repair cost?
It depends on the problem. A failed sensor or valve is a different job than an inverter replacement. We diagnose first and quote before any work starts.
My production dropped. What’s wrong?
Common causes include inverter issues, a failed optimizer, a bad string, shading from grown landscaping, or soiling. Most aren’t visible from the ground, which is why it needs a diagnostic visit.
How long do solar inverters last?
Most are warranted around ten to twelve years. Systems installed during the boom years are reaching that point now, which makes inverter failure the most common service call we handle.
My pool heater stopped working. What should I check?
Often a stuck diverter valve, a failed sensor, or a controller programming issue rather than the collectors themselves. All are repairable.
Can you remove my solar for a roof replacement?
Yes, and you should have a solar contractor do it rather than the roofing crew. We remove, store and reinstall using proper attachment methods, reusing components where they’re still good.
Should I repair or replace my old system?
Depends on age, what’s failing and panel condition. An inspection gives you the information to decide, and we’ll tell you honestly which way we’d go.
Do you inspect systems for a home purchase?
Yes. We evaluate condition, age and functionality and tell you what you’re buying before you close.
