Residential solar installation company in Southwest Florida
At Stilwell Solar, we understand that every home is unique, which is why we offer customized solar energy solutions tailored to meet your specific needs. We have the expertise and experience to design and install a system that works best for you.
Solar replaces part of your electric bill with equipment you own. How much depends on your roof, your sun exposure and how much power your household actually uses — which is why we size systems to your consumption rather than to the size of your roof.
Four decades here means we know what works on tile roofs in Naples, on canal-front homes in Cape Coral, and under the wind loads this coast requires. It also means we’ll tell you when solar doesn’t make sense on a house, which happens more often than most companies admit.

What solar panels do for your home electric bill
Lower, more predictable costs
Solar converts a variable expense you don’t control into a fixed asset you own. Most of what you’d otherwise send to the utility stays with you.
Protection from price increases
Electric rates have moved in one direction for as long as anyone has tracked them. The power your panels produce costs what it costs on day one and doesn’t change.
Added home value, without added property tax
Solar increases what your home is worth, and Florida excludes that added value from your property tax assessment.
Energy independence
Generating your own power reduces what you need from the grid and insulates you from price swings you have no say in.
Decades of service life
Panels carry warranties measured in decades, with no moving parts and effectively no routine maintenance.
Clean and quiet
No emissions, no noise, no fuel. The sun produces more energy in an hour than the world uses in a year.

How Does Solar Electricity Work?
Solar electricity is a great way to power your home while reducing your environmental impact and saving money on your energy bills. In some cases, if your solar panels produce more electricity than your home needs, the excess power is sent back to the electrical grid through a process called net metering. In many states, including Florida, you can earn credits on your energy bill for the excess electricity you generate.
But how exactly does solar energy work for a home?

Home Battery Storage
Solar alone won’t keep your lights on during an outage. Grid-tied systems shut down when the grid fails, to protect utility crews working the lines.
Battery storage changes that — critical circuits stay powered and recharge from your panels while the grid is still down. You can add storage later, but it’s cheaper to design for it up front even if you install it in a second phase.

Solar panel installation FAQ
How much does solar panel installation cost in Florida?
It depends on your usage, roof and whether you add battery storage. We size to your actual consumption and give you a firm number after reviewing your roof and twelve months of bills.
Will solar eliminate my electric bill?
Usually it reduces it substantially rather than eliminating it. Fixed utility charges remain, and most systems are sized to offset the majority of usage rather than all of it.
How long does solar panel installation take?
Installation itself runs a few days. The full timeline including permitting, utility interconnection and inspection usually takes several weeks to a few months, with utility approval often the longest step.
Do solar panels survive hurricanes?
Systems are engineered to the wind loads required for your location using components with Florida Product Approval. After a storm, a grid-tied system restarts when grid power returns.
Will solar work during a power outage?
Not on its own — grid-tied systems shut down when the grid fails. Battery storage is what keeps critical circuits running.
What if my roof needs replacing?
Replace it first or do both together. Removing and reinstalling an array later costs considerably more than coordinating up front.
Can my HOA stop me from installing solar?
Florida law limits what an association can prohibit. They may have input on placement, but they can’t block solar outright. We handle these conversations regularly.
What maintenance do solar panels need?
Very little. No moving parts, and monitoring flags issues before you’d notice them.
